According to emerging reports, Gujarat Titans will likely rope in Sri Lankan batting sensation Kusal Mendis as a replacement for Jos Buttler for the remainder of IPL 2025. Hailed for his scintillating stroke play, Buttler might miss the IPL playoffs due to the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies. 

GT Likely To Replace Jos Buttler With Kusal Mendis

Jos Buttler showcased remarkable form with the bat, playing a significant role for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025. Batting at number three, Buttler struck 500 runs at a superb average of 71.43 and a blistering strike rate of 163.93. 

However, the explosive English batter will likely skip the IPL playoffs due to national commitment. So, as reported by NewsWire, the franchise has approached Kusal Mendis in a bid to sign him as a temporary replacement. 

Buttler has been included in England's ODI and T20I teams that will take on the Caribbean men in a home series starting on May 29.  

Stats Of Kusal Mendis In T20 Cricket

Kusal Mendis is an experienced Sri Lankan top-order batter, who also keeps wickets. In 167 T20 innings, the stylish right-hander has slammed 4718 runs at an average of 30.24 and a strike rate of 137.43. 

Mendis recently participated in the PSL, exhibiting supreme form for Quetta Gladiators. In five outings for the Gladiators, Mendis amassed 143 runs at a superb average of 35.75 and a strike rate of 168.24. 

So, considering his experience and red-hot form, Mendis is expected to play a crucial role for the Titans if they pick him as Buttler's replacement. 

Update: ESPNCricinfo has confirmed that Mendis will replace Buttler for IPL 2025 playoffs. The English batter will likely play GT's remaining group-stage matches.
