Shakib Al Hasan cleared to bowl again [Source: @AddisonShield/X.com]
Bangladesh fans have a reason to cheer! Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has passed his bowling action reassessment test after being banned for a few months due to a suspect action. This comes as a huge relief for him, especially after failing the test twice before. The latest results confirm that his action is now within the legal limits, according to Cricbuzz.
Big Boost For Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib’s suspension had kept him out of Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy squad, as selectors didn’t want to pick him just as a batter. His absence was felt, with Bangladesh losing to India and New Zealand, while their game against Pakistan was washed out.
Since Shakib had hoped to make the Champions Trophy his farewell tournament, missing out was a major setback. His ODI future was uncertain, as the next big tournament, the 2027 ODI World Cup, is still far away. By then, he will be 40 years old.
After failing two previous tests, Shakib got lucky on his third attempt. He took the test in England and finally got clearance to bowl again. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he confirmed the news:
"Yes, I have passed the bowling test and can bowl again."
What Led To The Ban?
It is important to note that Shakib’s troubles began in September 2024, when he played for Surrey in the County Championship against Somerset. After the match, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) tested his action and found that his elbow extension was exceeding the allowed 15-degree limit. As a result, he was banned from bowling in England.
The 37-year-old all rounder then failed a second test in January, which meant he couldn't bowl in any domestic or international matches.
Meanwhile, Shakib hasn’t played since the Abu Dhabi T10 in November 2024. With no contracts in IPL or PSL, his next chance to return to action could be Bangladesh’s upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.
