In what comes as massive news for Bangladesh cricket, the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is all set to return to the field. The news is that Shakib has signed up for Legends of Rupganj in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2025.

Shakib To Make His Return In DPL

The controversial Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was ousted from the country after the fall of the Awami League government last year, is all set to return to the cricketing fold after signing up with the Legends of Rupganj team in the Dhaka Premier League 2025. Shakib, who was also an MP for the Awami League government, has not been able to return to his country of birth due to security reasons, as people in the country are against his arrival.

To the unaware, Shakib, who wanted to play his farewell Test against South Africa, failed to do so after protests occurred in the country.

Adding to this, Shakib also signed with Chittagong Kings but failed to honour this contract after being left unable to return for the 11th season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024/25.

However, the more important news is that it is still not decided if Shakib will be able to feature in this edition of the DPL, supposing there is no confirmation on his due return date to the country as the tournament begins in the first week of March.

On the other hand, the Rupganj administration is hopeful that the star all-rounder will be making his return to this league, considering they have filed his registration.

Shakib Banned From Bowling In International Cricket

Apart from all this, the 37-year-old has been barred from bowling in all of international and domestic cricket after getting banned from bowling following an illegal action reported during his County Championship game for Surrey.

Following this, he underwent an independent test assessment, which also deemed his action illegal. Moreover, he has been through some tests that have not been in his favour. But the positive news is that he will be able to play in the DPL, which does not consider the international illegal bowling action assessment, something that barred him from playing in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 for Bangladesh.
