GM Old Edwardians CC snap the title after unbeaten run in CSA Community Cup

The T20 Community Cup 2021-22, organised by Cricket South Africa, came to an end on Sunday, 24 April. The cup was played in three different venues across Pretoria.

After a somewhat tarnished image of Cricket South Africa and instability within the board, CSA has decided to pour money into the development of domestic cricket. They are trying their best to find new talent and have thus organised multiple domestic tournaments, including the T20 Community Cup.

The GM Old Edwardians CC clinched the cup against the Irene Villagers CC in the final showdown with an unbeaten record in the tournament. The Old Edwardians entered the tournament finals with a four-point lead ahead of the runner ups, Western Province CC. The Old Edwardians CC won the final match by four wickets.

The Western Province CC only had one defeat which cost them the tournament.

Nathan Englebrecht was named the 'Batter of the Tournament', while Justin Behrens claimed the 'Bowler of the Tournament award', and the 'Player of the Tournament' went to Jesse Smit.

The last edition of the T20 Community Cup was terminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the CSA senior cricket manager expressed that it was a 'great honour' to host the tournament this year. He congratulated the GM Old Edwardians CC and thanked the other teams for participating in the much-anticipated tournament.
