Harbhajan Singh heaps praise on ‘future legend’ Babar Azam

The skipper of the Pakistan national team, Babar Azam, has been one of the most consistent players in international cricket for the last few years. He has been a pivotal force to reckon with for the opposition team across all the formats.

Babar is positioned at the top spot in both white-ball formats as per the latest ICC Player’s Rankings, whereas he’s fifth-ranked in the Test format. These rankings indeed depict the dominance the Pakistan captain has.

In T20 World Cup 2021, he was the best batter of the pinnacle tournament as he piled up 303 runs at an average of 60.60. In the recent series against Australia, the 27-year old continued his rich form on home soil.

Against Australia, Babar garnered 390 runs in the three-match Test series, 276 runs in the same number of ODI games, and was the top-scorer in one-off T20I as well.

In a recent interaction with a leading website, the former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh praised the Pakistan captain. Harbhajan opined that he rates Babar highly due to his quality as a proper batter.

The former Indian cricketer further added that the World No.1 ODI batter has much confidence and technique, and he will undoubtedly be a legendary figure in world cricket.

“I think it is a bit too early to say if he can be in the Fab Four. I don’t even know who are in the Fab Four. But Babar definitely has the quality, he is a proper batsman with so much of confidence and technique. Going forward he will be one of the legends of cricket,” Harbhajan commented.

The 41-year old urged all the fans and pundits to keep the pressure off Babar and let him win many games for his country.

“Now it’s too early to put him in any league. Let him play and keep on scoring more runs and winning games for his team. And talent-wise, he is no less than anyone else,” India’s fourth-highest Test wicket-taker concluded.

Statistically, Babar is no less than his contemporary from other countries. The Karachi-born has an average of around 45 in Tests and T20Is, while he has been terrific in ODIs with an average of 59.18.
