IPL 2022 | Shikhar Dhawan completes 6000 IPL runs; breaches 1000-run mark vs CSK as well

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shikhar Dhawan brought up a historic milestone on April 25, Monday, completing 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Records galore for Dhawan in his side's fixture against the Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super Kings as he became the second batter to go past the 6000-run mark in his 200th IPL match.

Besides Dhawan, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Virat Kohli is the only cricketer to achieve the landmark figure. The former India captain did so while playing for the Bangalore-based franchise in the 2021 edition of the IPL.

As CSK opted to bowl first, Dhawan opened along with his skipper Mayank Agarwal in the first innings. The swashbuckling southpaw, who needed two runs to breach the mark, tapped a good-length delivery for a quick single in spinner Maheesh Theekshana's over to write down his name in a rare list.

The 36-year-old put another record in his kitty as he crossed 1000 runs against the Super Kings.

Dhawan's IPL career involves stints with many franchises as he has played for Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in the lucrative tournament.

For Punjab, Dhawan has been the highest run-scorer so far in the season. As I write, 302 runs read besides his name off eight matches. Meanwhile, Punjab have given Chennai a target of 188.
