In a significant development, the BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. With several prominent players rested, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee introduced fresh faces to test new combinations ahead of future challenges.

One of the most significant inclusion in the squad was the return of leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who last donned the Indian jersey in 2021. Another notable player included in the squad is Mayank Yadav, who has received his maiden call for India. Mayank has been on the selectors’ radar following his impressive performance in IPL 2024.

However, several crucial players have missed the spot and few have been rested to manage their workload. In this article, let's take a look at the six crucial players that will not play against Bangladesh in the upcoming T20I series.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

The most shocking exclusion from the squad was that of Ruturaj Gaikwad. The CSK skipper, who had also been left out of the Sri Lanka series, was overlooked again, which indicates that the selectors might be considering younger opening options like Abhishek Sharma.

However, it is important to mention that Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named in the Rest of India squad for the highly anticipated Irani Trophy match against Mumbai.

He is set to lead the Rest of India's team against the reigning Ranji Trophy champions, and this could be another reason that he has missed his place in India's squad for the T20I's against Bangladesh.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has already established himself as one of India’s most reliable Test batters. He is currently playing in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. In order to maintain his fitness and form and prevent any potential burnout or injury, the team management has decided to rest Gill from the T20I series against Bangladesh.

This decision stems from the need to manage his workload, as he is considered a vital part of India's Test setup. With crucial Test matches against on the horizon, it’s essential for India that Gill stays fit and mentally prepared to deliver his best performances in the longest format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal has rapidly become a crucial player for India in Test cricket. India’s Test season will see consecutive series against tough opponents like New Zealand and Australia, and the team management is keen to have Jaiswal at his peak performance for these encounters.

Therefore, this could be a vital reason to rest Jaiswal from the T20I series against Bangladesh and ensure he remains fresh and fully prepared for the upcoming challenges in the Test arena.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, one of the most lethal fast bowlers in world cricket, is arguably India’s biggest asset in all formats. However, Bumrah has a history of injury issues, particularly with his back, which has sidelined him for extended periods in the past.

The team management is understandably cautious about overburdening him as he is already playing the Test series against Bangladesh. As a result, Bumrah has been rested from the Bangladesh T20I series.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan, once touted as a rising star in Indian cricket, has faced a rollercoaster of emotions over the past year. Despite his immense talent and early success, Kishan has seen his place in the national team become uncertain, losing his spot in the squad and subsequently being removed from the BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players.

Ishan also returned to domestic cricket and did well in First Class (FC) cricket. Despite that, his name is missing from India T20I squad, which indicates that the BCCI wants him to grind more for his place to earn his spot back.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant made a remarkable return to Test cricket after his horrific car accident in 2022 and is currently playing against Bangladesh in the Test series. In order to maintain his fitness and the demanding schedule, the team management has chosen to rest Pant from the T20I series against Bangladesh.

The main reason for this decision is to keep him fresh for the Test series against New Zealand and Australia.
