Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has advised the International Cricket Council (ICC) to perform a forensic audit of various cricket boards in a bid to justify their revenue shares. Earlier this year, the apex body suggested its financial distribution model for the 2024-27 period.

The model indicated that the BCCI would be entitled to receive 38.5 percent share of the total revenue from the ICC, which is considerably larger to the revenue shares of Cricket Australia (6.25 percent) and ECB (6.89 percent).

The suggestion sparked widespread criticism from several boards, particularly from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as they issued an official statement to the ICC demanding to seek a better understanding of the allocation of wages.

Sunil Gavaskar advices ICC to shut down ‘usual moaners’

While writing for the Sportstar, former Indian captain and active commentator Sunil Gavaskar advised the ICC to perform forensic audits of various cricket boards to determine their expenditures. As per Gavaskar, performing forensic audits would nullify the demands of boards or ‘usual moaners’ who are asking for a bigger revenue share from the ICC.

He added that all cricket boards are getting “more than enough” to run the game in their respective countries while still having “something left over”.

In separate news, the ICC is planning to set up a separate fund in a bid to flourish Test cricket outside India, Australia and England. Sunil Gavaskar said that he would welcome such a move as a separate fund would help home teams to bear the hotel and internal travel costs of the visiting teams.
