Bangladesh secured a historic win over hosts Pakistan in the first Test of their two-match series in Rawalpindi a few days ago. Much of Bangladesh’s success can be attributed to their collective efforts in silencing senior Pakistani batter Babar Azam, who scored just 22 runs across both innings of the match. Mohammad Rizwan, on the other hand, charted 171* in the first innings before waging Pakistan’s lone rebellion on a tough Day 5 pitch.

Mere days prior to the series decider, Bangladesh bowling coach Andre Adams hailed both Babar and Rizwan when he was asked to divulge details about his team’s bowling plans for the two senior batters.

While speaking with The Daily Star, Bangladesh bowling coach Andre Adams emphasized the importance of bowling with patience on batting-friendly Pakistan pitches.

He also expressed his uncertainty over the kind of surface they will be offered for the upcoming second Test. The former New Zealand cricketer said:

“I don't know what sort of wicket we will get for the second Test. I don't know how much the plan will change. This is a country where you have to be patient in Test matches. I don't see the plans changing too much from the blueprint of the previous game. The plans could change if they (Pakistan) change their playing XI.”

Andre Adams also jokingly refused to divulge the plans Bangladesh bowlers have formulated to tackle Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. The cricketer-turned-coach further praised Babar and Rizwan and highlighted the importance of their wickets. He added:

“Babar Azam is a great player and you have to be clear about what you want to do to get him out early. You have to pay attention to guys like Babar and Mohammad Rizwan, who can take the game away from you.”

With a 1-0 lead in the series, Bangladesh will now face Pakistan in the second Test at Rawalpindi between August 30 and September 3.
