Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie has straight up refused to replace Gautam Gambhir as Team India head coach. The former Australian fast bowler had a nonchalant two-word response to a Pakistani fan, who suggested the ex-cricketer to take up India’s coaching gig amidst their recent Test struggles.

It is worth noting that while Gautam Gambhir has guided Team India to a comprehensive ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and Asia Cup 2025 wins, the former Indian opener has been facing some intense scrutiny from all corners for team’s dwindling Test form.

Jason Gillespie says ‘no thanks’ to possible India coaching gig

While interacting with fans on X, former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie was asked by a Pakistani social media user to coach the Indian cricket team, stating they have suffered two home whitewashes against New Zealand and South Africa within the space of a year.

Gillespie, however, distanced himself from the hypothetical offer and refused to replace Gautam Gambhir as Team India head coach. The ex-cricketer nonchalantly dropped a two-word response, stating: “No thanks.”

Interestingly, Jason Gillespie himself had a topsy-turvy stint as the head coach of the Pakistan Test team. While he was appointed as national red-ball head coach back in April 2024, the Pakistan team suffered a shock 0-2 Test series defeat at home against Bangladesh under his guidance.

Moreover, Pakistan also lost the series-opening first Test against England in October 2024 by an innings and 47 runs in Multan, i.e., the same match where the visitors amassed 823-7d in just 150 overs.

Three successive defeats prompted Pakistan to resort to spin-friendly pitches, and they went on to win the three-match series 2-1.

Despite guiding Pakistan to a rare series win over England, Jason Gillespie resigned as head coach of the Pakistan Test team later in the year in December 2024, with former cricketer Aqib Javed replacing him.
