In what seems to be an embarrassment for PCB and Pakistan cricket fans, former head coach Jason Gillespie has exposed the lack of professionalism in the board. It all happened on Thursday when the former Aussie pacer replied to a fan’s question on his coaching stint with the Pakistan cricket team in the Tests.

Notably, Gilliespie was appointed Pakistan’s red-ball head coach by the Pakistan Cricket Board in April 2024, before he resigned abruptly in December 2024. He was then replaced by the former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed as the Test coach.

“Left me completely humiliated…” - Jason Gillespie’s ‘no-nonsense’ revelation

Gillespie recently exposed how the communication and professionalism are completely compromised in the Pakistan Cricket Board. He also revealed how the assistant coach during his tenure was sacked without any proper communication.

It all started with his response to a fan’s question on PSL. “Sir, have you followed the Pakistan Super League in the past and your comments on it please?” asked a fan to Gillespie on X, to which the latter replied, “It’s a great competition”.

Furthermore, the conversation became more interesting when a fan asked Gillespie, “Then why you opted out from Pakistan coaching?”

The question that ignited Gillespie's answer:

What Pakistan Cricket Board would have never expected was Gillespie’s answer to this particular question by a cricket fan.

“I was coaching the Pakistan Test side. The PCB sacked our senior assistant coach with ZERO communication with me about it- as Head Coach I found this situation completely unacceptable. There were a number of other issues which left me completely humiliated,” wrote Gillespie in his answer to the fan.

In his answer, the former Aussie quick also blamed the PCB for humiliating him and leaving him in an embarrassing situation with no authority. He also admitted that he had no other option but to resign from the coaching role.

Pakistan’s sour history with coaches

Gillespie’s brief stint as Pakistan head coach included the home Tests against Bangladesh, which the hosts won by 2-1 after losing the first Test. Following this, he guided the side to an ODI series win in Australia before losing the T20I series.

Furthermore, the Test series against South Africa in South Africa was his last assignment as Pakistan's head coach. He was there during the Boxing Day Test in Centurion but resigned midway, with Aaqib Javed taking over the responsibility.

Apart from Jason Gillespie, the Pakistan Cricket Board has also had a rough history with its coaches and support staff in the past. PCB also appointed former India head coach Gary Kirsten as the team's white-ball coach in April 2024.

The board signed him for two years, but then, in October 2024, Kirsten resigned with immediate effect. The reasons revealed behind his resignation were his differences with the PCB on selection merit, alongside a power struggle in the board.
