Pakistan T20I captain Salman Agha and head coach Mike Hesson are both lined up to helm the Multan Sultans franchise in a systematic overhaul in the upcoming PSL 2026 season. As per a recent report, the Sultans franchise has even appointed Aaqib Javed as the new head of cricket affairs.
It is worth noting that Multan Sultans, under the leadership of Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, finished at the bottom of the PSL 2025 points table last year, procuring just a solitary win and sustaining nine crushing defeats from 10 league matches.
Salman Agha replaces Mohammad Rizwan in PSL 2026
Salman Agha, who replaced Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan T20I captain back in early 2024, has now reportedly replaced the senior wicketkeeper-batter as Multan Sultans skipper for the upcoming PSL 2026 season.
Moreover, Salman will be joined by national head coach Mike Hesson, as Pakistan’s captain-coach duo are now tipped to jointly spearhead Multan Sultans’ revival in PSL 2026.
Also as reported by Pakistan’s sports journalist Qadir Khawaja, former Pakistan cricketer Aqib Javed, who previously coached Lahore Qalandars, will now serve the Multan Sultans franchise as their new head of cricket affairs.
Nonethless, Salman Agha previously represented the Islamabad United franchise. The star all-rounder even played the PSL 2025 season as their vice-captain, serving as a deputy to captain Shadab Khan.
As confirmed by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, the PSL 2026 season is set to be played between March 23 and May 3, thus coinciding with BCCI’s cash rich IPL 2026 season in India.
Salman Agha, however, will now lead the Pakistan national team alongside head coach Mike Hesson in the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next month.
