New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult achieved a unique feat on Saturday, February 8, as he became the first player in the world to win four T20 tournaments with four different teams of the same franchise. Yes, as MI Cape Town emerged champions of the SA20 League 2025, the kiwi speedster added another feather to what has been a glorious T20 career for him.
Previously, he has won the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Mumbai Indians in the year 2020, followed by Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 with MI New York and International League T20 (ILT20) with MI Emirates in 2024. So, that makes four T20 titles with the same franchises in four different leagues in a span of five years.
It was a terrific tournament for both Boult and MI Cape Town as a whole in the third edition of SA20 League. The Rashid Khan-led side dominated the league right from the first game and went on to clinch their maiden title. They defeated the two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the Final and Boult played a key role in it.
The left-arm pacer took two key wickets of Jordan Hermann and later Tristan Stubbs while conceding just 9 runs in his four overs as MI Cape Town won by 76 runs and Boult was named the player of the match. While speaking to the broadcasters after the match, Boult expressed his jubilation after winning yet another title with a MI franchise and this time in South Africa.
“Very special. To get the opportunity to win all four (titles with MI franchise) was great. Haven't played much cricket in South Africa. Guys wanted to do it for each other. Cricket here has been great fun,” Boult said during the post match interview.
In March, Boult will be back in Mumbai Indians colors for the first time in IPL since 2021. The former New Zealand international was acquired by the franchise for 12.50 crore in the IPL Mega Auction.
