On Sunday, February 9, India locked horns against England for the 2nd ODI at the Barbati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha. The visitors, for the second time, won the toss and opted to bat first. Interestingly, India, who won the first match, made two changes for the ongoing match.
As expected, Virat Kohli, who missed the first ODI, returned to the side, but the fans were shocked to see Kuldeep Yadav miss out. In fact, Varun Chakaravarthy was preferred ahead of him in the pecking order. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on why is Yadav left on the bench for the 2nd ODI?
Why Is Kuldeep Yadav Not Playing 2nd ODI?
It is worth noting that there is no injury concerns and Yadav is fully fit. However, as per reports, he has been given a rest ahead of crucial Champions Trophy. Notably, Yadav returned to international cricket after a long time in the 1st ODI as he recently recovered from a groin injury.
Further, he looked a pale shadow of his earlier version and registered the figures of 1/53 and that too he picked the last wicket of the match. Thus, it can be assumed that India are looking to try Varun, who is in form and the best spinner at the moment for the Men in Blue.
Notably, Varun is not a part of Champions Trophy squad, but changes can be made till February 12 and him playing in the 2nd ODI is a boost for the KKR star.
