India have been one of the most dominant teams in world cricket across formats since the dawn of the 21st century. They have been a good travelling side as well, winning overseas, but have been almost invincible at home. Their record in Test cricket, the toughest format of the game has been stunning too, which speaks a lot about the quality of Indian players.

India started playing Test cricket in 1932 when they were still under the colonial rule and lost to England in that Test by 158 runs. India's first Test win came in 1951-52 tour of England to India and since then till 9th March 2000, India won 61 Test matches and lost 112 games.

However, India have been a different beast in the 21st century with series wins not only in India but also overseas. From 10th March 2000 to 9th March 2024, India have won 117 Test matches and have lost just 66 Test matches in last 24 years. This dominance has brought India's total tally of wins and losses to exact same position in Test cricket with 178 wins and 178 losses.

India's overseas Success

In the 21st century, India have won series in West Indies, New Zealand, England and Australia and have also managed a draw in South Africa during the 2010 series. The credit goes to players and captains who have played in the last 24 years which includes plenty of big names like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble to name a few.

The latest series win against England by a 4-1 margin has once again shown the quality of India's next generation and the 'Men in Blue' look all set to dominate world cricket in the next decade or so.
