In a significant development, former actor Youssef Berouain, who was on the run after killing England seamer Gus Atkinson's mother, has been arrested. Youssef, who has acted in EastEnders, Doctors, and the 9/11 mini series The Looming Tower, was driving recklessly on the night of December 10, 2020, when he smashed his car into Uber which had Atkinson's mother Caroline Atkinson.

It is learned that the former actor has been found guilty and sentenced to 8 and half years of imprisonment.

Officials investigating the scene of the crime mentioned that they found Youssef to be under the influence of cannabis.

The actor had been driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone in Fulham, South West London, before the horror.

Who Was Caroline Atkinson?

Caroline was 55 years old when the tragic incident occurred. She was returning from Christmas night out in an Uber when Youssef hit her with his Audi car. The actor had been driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone in Fulham, South West London, before the accident.

It is worth noting that she was a mother of three, including Gus Atkinson and had a huge role in motivating Atkinson to play for England.

Mark Wood too had acknowledged Caroline's role in Atkinson's career. He said:

“It was his mother who drove him at this stage. She was the one who spurred him on and got him involved in Surrey’s youth programmes, into which he drifted until his own urge to become a professional cricketer took over."

The latest development around Atkinson's mother has come around when the right-arm seamer has taken England's red-ball scenario by storm.

Atkinson's Performance for England Recently

In July 2024, Atkinson made his England Test debut and took 12 wickets in his maiden Test at Lord's. Further, he again shone at the mecca of cricket against Sri Lanka, where he smashed a century to display his prowess as a batter.
