On Wednesday, September 3, the government of India made major reforms to the existing Tax slabs on valuable items. The finance ministry simplified the process and decided to divide the GST into two slabs: 5% and 18%.

The GST on several items have been reduced to the 5% slab, whereas the government has raised the slab to 40% on luxurious and also harmful products. Notably, the tax on tobacco products, cigarettes and online gaming has increased.

IPL Tickets To Get Costlier For 2026

Meanwhile, cricket fans too would be impacted by the current change, as the tax slab has been revised to 40% from 28% for IPL games. Notably, the government has considered IPL to be a luxurious and entertainment business, which is why the tax slab has been revised to 40%.

The tickets will now be costlier than earlier, for example, a ticket that was priced at 1000 rupees used to be sold at 1180 rupees. However, after the revised rate, the price for a single ticket will now be 1400 rupees.

Notably, the GST reforms will only affect IPL games and not India matches. Thus, ticket prices for international games will continue to draw only 18% GST.
