In a significant development, veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 42-year-old made his decision public during his conversation with reputed media agency, IANS.
Amit Mishra Bids Adieu To All Forms Of Cricket
On Thursday morning, Amit Mishra, an integral member of the Indian team in the late 2000s and early 2010s, hung up his boots from all forms of cricket. Although Mishra played his last international game way back in February 2017, he was active in the Indian Premier League till the 2024 season.
However, a decline in his wicket-taking ability and fitness concerns eventually led to his ouster from the league, with none of the franchises showing interest in him in last year's mega auction.
Mishra played 68 international matches for India, including 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is, scalping 156 wickets across formats. He was significantly more successful in the IPL, finishing his career as the eighth highest wicket-taker, with 174 scalps under his belt.
The leg-spinner made his international debut in an ODI against South Africa in Dhaka in 2003. However, he couldn't get regular chances due to the presence of more established names- Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble.
He was recalled around 2008-09 ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, where he featured in the abandoned clash against Australia. Although the wrist spinner also played 22 Tests, he was particularly successful in white-ball cricket.
Amit Mishra's Remarkable Cricketing Achievements
Amit Mishra holds the record for the most number of IPL hat-tricks (3). His first hat-trick came for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) against the Deccan Chargers. Interestingly, he took his second and third hat-tricks for the Hyderabad-based franchises, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers, in 2011 and 2013, respectively.
