Faf du Plessis and Jason Roy in T20s (Source:@ESPNcricinfo/X.com)
Faf du Plessis, the 40-year-old veteran, has pulled out of the 2025 edition of The Hundred. The Proteas batter was supposed to play for Southern Brave this season and was the direct signing of the franchise.
However, he has now decided to undergo surgery for the groin injury he suffered during IPL 2025. It is a big loss for Southern Brave as Faf du Plessis has been in good form in MLC 2025.
Southern Brave have now replaced Jason Roy with Faf du Plessis. The Englishman went undrafted earlier this year due to his poor form, but has found form in recent times, and it has helped him bag the Hundred contract again.
Jason Roy Gets Call-Up After Exploits In T20 Blast 2025
In the ongoing T20 Blast 2025, Jason Roy has scored 301 runs in 10 innings at an average of 30.10 and a strike-rate of over 140. He has hit three fifties as well, and this return to form is a good sign for the top-order batter who has lost his place both at the international level and in many franchise leagues across the globe.
Jason Roy was part of Northern Superchargers in the last season but could not play a single game due to a shoulder injury. He played for Oval Invincibles in the initial three seasons, and though he did well in the 2021 edition, his numbers have drastically gone down in the last few years.
Now, his current form and The Hundred Lifeline are likely to bring him back into the limelight, and he would be a key player for Southern Brave in the absence of experienced Faf du Plessis. The GMR group, which owns the Delhi Capitals in IPL, has bought shares of Southern Brave and would be hoping to clinch the trophy after falling short in the final last time around.
