Rohit to be dropped? [Source: @OneCricketApp/x.com]
In the latest development which takes us away from the Indian Premier League, Team India could make a harsh call ahead of the England Test series, set to begin next month. As per multiple reports and specifically from RevSportz, the national selection committee had a meeting on Tuesday and Rohit's future was discussed in it.
Rohit to be dropped from England tour?
There was no mention of Rohit getting dropped from the England Tour, but indications have been given in the past few days that the India Test captain could potentially be dropped.
Recently, a report circulated that the team management are looking at Shubman Gill as the future Test captain from the next WTC cycle, and the change of guard could start from the England tour onwards.
The Indian Test captain dropped himself from the 5th Test in Sydney, earlier this year, and it won't be a surprise if the selectors decide to remove him from the Test captaincy ahead of the all-important England Tests.
Is Rohit Sharma's sacking justified?
From 2019-2023, Rohit Sharma resurrected his Test career and was the best batter of the team. However, the last two series against New Zealand and Australia turned the tides and the pendulum swung against him. Under his captaincy, India got whitewashed at home by the Kiwis, and then they lost 3-1 against Australia, Down Under.
Plus, as a batter in 2024, he had a disappointing year. In 14 Tests, Rohit scored just 619 runs, with an average of just 24.76. He failed to deliver in the home Test series against New Zealand and was eventually dropped from the SCG Test.
