In what is coming as joyous news for cricket fans in India ahead of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to organize 13 different opening ceremonies this season across venues. The news was revealed by a source inside the BCCI, who confirmed details about the speculation.

BCCI Expected To Host 13 Opening Ceremonies

The cash-rich Indian Premier League is not far away, as the grandest league on the planet, featuring 10 great teams and all the top players from different cricketing nations, will feature together for the 18th time when the tournament commences on March 22nd.

To celebrate the occasion, the governing body, BCCI, is planning to host not one, two, or three, but 13 different opening ceremonies across all the venues hosting IPL 2025, according to prominent news platform Sportstar.

Although this is not the first time such a meticulous event has been planned, previously to celebrate the 10th edition of the IPL, BCCI pulled off a similar feat, as all eight venues involving the eight teams had an opening ceremony before the match back in 2017.

However, this season, it is expected to be even bigger, with a plethora of artists, both local and national involved in the event, as all the state organizations and the BCCI are involved in organizing the grand opening ceremonies.

As for the first ceremony, which is slated to be hosted at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for the opening encounter, it is worth noting that the singers Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Aujla and actress Disha Patani are expected to be present for the event, which is also likely to be attended by the ICC (International Cricket Council) Chairman, Jay Shah, while many other member of the top brass are likely to be present.

The news was revealed by an inside source who is aware of the developments happening inside the BCCI, adding that there might be some cultural programs on the way, while a lineup of superstars in the music and film industry are likely to be present at each venue during different occasions.

“We wanted to add more flavour to the tournament so that spectators from each and every venue can get a taste of the opening ceremony. For the cultural programmes in each venue, we are planning to create a line-up of national and local artists,”

It was also mentioned that the BCCI is now in the final stage of conversations with the mentioned artists, as apart from Kolkata and traditional venues like Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, there will be Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Dharamsala, as well, which form the 13 venues.

Although it is not confirmed who, apart from Kolkata, will be performing, the timeline has been stipulated with the list of artists and various celebrities likely to be finalized by March 19th, Wednesday.

“Since this is happening at such a scale for the first time, there are some logistical issues as well. So, the BCCI and State associations are working in tandem to ensure that the programmes are conducted smoothly without hampering the matches.”

Moreover, there are rumors that the opening ceremony will be attended by Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Considering the former owns the IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), while the latter is expected to promote his film, "Sikandar," during the event with his performance.

IPL 2025 To Kick Start On March 22nd

Focusing on cricket, the Indian Premier League is all set to begin on March 22nd, with the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The final is slated to be played at the same venue on May 25th, involving a total of 74 matches with 10 teams.
