Brief Score: India Women- 145/1 (17.4 Overs), Shafali Verma 64* (44), Smriti Mandhana 54 (52); Georgia Wareham 1/20 (3.4) beat Australia Women - 141/10 (19.2 Overs), Phoebe Litchfeld 49 (32), Ellyse Perry 37 (30); Titas Sadhu 4/17 (4), Shreyanka Patil 2/19 (3.2) by 9 wickets.

Riding on the back of Titas Sadhu's heroics with the ball, followed by some merciless batting from the openers, India Women got the better of Australia Women in the First T20I of the three-match series, taking place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

After a heavy rubbing in the ODI series Harmanpreet Kaur and co made a terrific comeback, winning the series opener and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Titas heroics skittled Australian batting

Earlier, Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. The visitors had a decent start with an opening stand of 28, but the Indians struck 4 quick wickets to give a huge setback to the Australian innings early inside the powerplay.

The major damage was done by the young pace sensation, Titas Sadhu who took 3 of the first 4 wickets and Australia were limited to 33 for 4 after the first six overs.

Very much like what we saw in the ODI series, Ellyse Perry, alongside Phoebe Litchfield, had to do the rescue job following the powerplay. Both Perry and Litchfield negotiated the Indian bowlers to deviate the momentum and started to score briskly once the nerves settled.

The duo went on to add 79 runs for the 5th wicket before Litchfield fell one short of her half century which led to another flurry of Australian wickets towards the end. Eventually, they got all-out for 141 without completing the full 20 overs quota.

Titas came back into the attack and finished with a figure of 4-17 in her 4 overs. The right-arm pacer from Bengal was easily the pick of the Indian bowling this evening. Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka complimented well, claiming two wickets each.

Shafali-Mandhana record-breaking opening stand steered India home

Chasing 142, Indian openers got off to a flying start as they blaze Australia away, going almost at 10 runs per over inside the first six overs. Both Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana took on the Aussie bowlers and put India well on the course to victory in the very first half of the innings.

The duo continued the flow of runs after the powerplay and kept the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace. At the halfway mark, India were 86 for none, pushing Australia further behind in the contest.

Verma was looking absolutely ruthless as the dynamic opener completed her half century in just 32 deliveries and completed the 100-run opening stand, which was the first ever century run partnership by India Women against Australia in T20 internationals.

Eventually, Mandhana reached her half century as well, before she delivered one directly into the hands of Tahlia McGrath at long-on. Australia finally got something to celebrate but it was too late for them to make a comeback into the contest. India took the target down with more than 2 overs to spare and went 1-0 in the three-match series.
