Mark Wood injury - (Source: AFP)
In a significant development, England cricket have dealt a massive blow as their star seamer Mark Wood has suffered an injury scare on day 1 of the warm-up match. Notably, ahead of Ashes 2025 opener, England locked horns against England Lions in a practice match, which is when Wood felt discomfort after bowling eight overs.
England cricket team took to social media to confirm that Wood pulled up his hamstring and has been sent up for precautionary scans. Notably, England are sweating hard as the Ashes 2025 opener is set to start from November 21.
"Mark Wood is set to undergo a precautionary scan on Friday Nov 14, after suffering hamstring stiffness during Day 1 of England's warm-up game against England Lions in Perth. The England fast bowler spent time off the field during the afternoon session, having completed eight overs with the ball. He is expected to bowl again in two days time," read ECB's statement.
Mark Wood's tryst with destiny
Mark Wood has a tryst with destiny as he suffered a nasty blow to his knee earlier this year and underwent left knee surgery for ligament surgery during Champions Trophy and it ruled him out of action for five months.
Thus, England are taking a lot of risk by including Wood in the Ashes squad as the right-arm seamer has not played a single game since Champions Trophy 2025. Further, it has been more than a year since Wood's last Test match, which was during Sri Lanka's tour to England, where he played the first Test.
That time too, Wood could only play a single Test as he suffered a side-strain and was ruled out of the 2nd Test. Further, his complete participation in five-match series vs Australia is doubtful.
