In a surprising development, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20I cricket.

Jadeja's T20I journey

This decision comes on the heels of India's victory over South Africa, marking Jadeja's final T20I appearance. He joins Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in stepping away from the shortest format of the game.

Jadeja made his debut in T20I cricket against Sri Lanka in 2009, and has been a consistent presence in India’s T20I team for over a decade. Despite participating in numerous T20 World Cups, he had not clinched a title until India’s recent win against South Africa in Barbados, which beautifully concluded his T20I career.

The spin-bowling all-rounder penned his retirement note on social media.

While Jadeja may not have been the standout performer in this year's T20 World Cup, his contributions have been instrumental in leading the Indian team across all formats.

In his 74 T20I matches, Jadeja scored 515 runs at an average of 21.45 and a strike rate of 127.16. With the ball, the left-arm orthodox spinner took 54 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13 and was also known for his exceptional fielding, taking 28 catches.

Social media lauds Ravindra Jadeja

Having retired from T20Is, Jadeja will continue to represent India in ODI and Test cricket. In Tests, he has scored 3,036 runs and taken 294 wickets, while in ODIs, he has accumulated 2,756 runs and 220 wickets. Additionally, Jadeja will continue to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where he has been a key player.

Fans on social media were shell shocked after acknowledging this fact.

After the T20 World Cup, Jadeja will most probably be seen in Indian colours, when the Men in Blue will travel to Sri Lanka towards the end of July.
