India's head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to make his return to Australia after he left the Border-Gavaskar Trophy midway. The ex-Indian cricketer took a leave of absence for personal reasons but will be back with the Men in Blue on Tuesday.

Gambhir will be flying back just in time for the important Pink Ball Test in Adelaide against Australia, which kicks off on December 6.

India Cruises To Victory In Gambhir's Absence

While Gambhir was away, Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar stepped in to take over coaching responsibilities. The coach missed the Prime Minister's XI match against India in Canberra, where the Indian team cruised to victory after the game was shortened to a one-day format due to rain.

It was an exciting match overall, with notable performances from both teams, but Harshit Rana’s four-wicket haul really stole the show. KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Washington Sundar also had great innings, helping India secure the win by six wickets.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Shubman Gill also joined in for the warm-up match. However, now, that calls for a selection dilemma for the Playing XI in Adelaide that Gambhir has to answer ahead of the Adelaide test.

Gambhir Faces Selection Headache

The impressive performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul in Perth has strengthened their claim as the opening pair. Shubman Gill's return from injury adds another dimension to the top order, potentially displacing Devdutt Padikkal from the number three spot.

Rohit Sharma's decision to bat at number five in the warm-up game has opened up possibilities for the middle order. With Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant occupying the middle order positions, India boasts a strong batting lineup.

With so many options on the table, India has the chance to field a strong batting lineup, which could mean sidelining some of the younger players. Gambhir will need to make some tough decisions regarding the playing XI in Adelaide, taking into account the current form and performances of all the players.
