The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been among the most underperforming teams in the Indian Premier League's history. Over the years, their blunders at the auction table have often haunted them in the IPL seasons. However, during the IPL 2025 auction, the RCB management looked particularly inclined to work out the things that have so far gone against them.
During the two days of the IPL 2025 mega auction, we saw that RCB concentrated on picking players who would provide strength and solidity to their middle order. They also tried to pick up bowlers who could deliver for them in all stages of a match. Thus, this year, RCB looks like a much more complete team.
Let us first look at the RCB squad for IPL 2025 and then try to analyse who will be their bowlers in the death overs.

Who Will Open The Bowling For Royal Challengers Bengaluru In IPL 2025?
As said before, RCB has put a special effort into curating bowlers for all the stages. In doing so, they have secured the services of two of the best new ball bowlers they could have: Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. It is expected that these two will start with the new ball for the Royal Challengers. Two overs from these bowlers upfront, along with one each from Swapnil Singh and Suyash Sharma or Yash Dayal, could be the strategy. However, they might also look to use three overs of Josh Hazlewood in the first six.
Who Will Bowl The Death Overs For RCB In IPL 2025?
Let us look at the death-over record of the bowlers that RCB has on their team and who could be a part of the playing 12.
Players | Overs | Wickets | Economy |
---|---|---|---|
Josh Hazlewood | 50.3 | 31 | 9.37 |
Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 234 | 107 | 9.11 |
Nuwan Thushara | 58.1 | 30 | 10.26 |
Yash Dayal | 34.1 | 14 | 10.30 |
Romario Shepherd | 80 | 37 | 9.68 |
Looking at the options available, RCB will have to include either Romario Shepherd or Nuwan Thushara in their playing 12. This would mean that they would have to give up one overseas player from the batting line-up. If they don't include either Shepherd or Thushara in their playing combination, they will have to work out the death overs with Yash Dayal, Josh Hazlewood or Bhuvneshwar Kumar. While Kumar will bowl in the death, which will be one of his duties, using Hazlewood or Yash Dayal consistently in the phase can hurt them during the tournament.
