In a significant development, there are reports that England opener Ben Duckett has refused an offer to play in IPL 2025. In the latest events, former England captain Michael Vaughan has revealed that Duckett, who went unsold during a mega-auction, was presented with an offer to play in the ongoing season, but the southpaw rejected it.
According to the report, Delhi Capitals, who registered a handsome win over LSG in their season opener, had asked Duckett to join them as Harry Brook's replacement. Notably, Brook ditched DC for the second time in a row as he pulled out of the tournament, citing personal reasons.
Ben Duckett Rejects IPL Offer
Notably, DC had signed Brook for a whopping 6.25 crores during the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
“I did hear a whisper that they (Delhi Capitals) went for Ben Duckett, but Ben Duckett doesn’t wanna come over," Vaughan was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
However, Vaughan refused to state the reason behind Duckett's move. One of the possible reasons could be DC is filled with star openers and Ben not getting game time. However, another reason could be to prioritise international cricket as the Three Lions have a busy summer lined-up.
Although, for the unversed, Duckett did register himself for the IPL auction but went unsold. Further, he was present in India recently when England toured the sub-continent for a T20I and ODI series.
Duckett performed decently with the bat but had to face criticism after the series as he promised to face India in the Champions Trophy final, but the Three Lions crashed out of the tournament early. Talking about Delhi Capitals, then the 2020 finalists are yet to announce a replacement for Brook.
