Shivam Dube bowled a brilliant spell [Source: @CricCrazyJohns/x.com]
Shivam Dube walked off the Dubai International Cricket Stadium turf on Wednesday with a smile that said it all. He wasn’t the headline act when India squared off against United Arab Emirates in Match 2 of the Asia Cup 2025 but by the time the UAE innings folded for a mere 57, Dube had turned the focus firmly on himself.
Shivam Dube Shines With Ball To Win Impact Player Of The Match
India went on to hunt down the target in just 4.3 overs, sealing a nine-wicket win but it was Shivam Dube’s golden arm that lit up the dressing room. And fittingly, he walked away with the Dressing Room Impact Player of the Match medal, handed over by India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel.
Ever since the Impact Player rule kicked in during the Indian Premier League 2023, Dube had been a victim of circumstance. Teams used him purely for his hitting, shelving his bowling like an old bat in the corner. Three seasons brought him just 3 overs, 47 runs and 1 lonely wicket.
But Dube never parked the dream. While the world only saw his sixes, he was quietly toiling with the ball at training, ironing out the kinks, sharpening his seam position and learning to mix it up. That unseen grind came roaring to life under the Dubai lights.
A Spell That Rattled UAE
With the UAE top order poking and prodding, Suryakumar Yadav threw the ball to Dube. What followed was pure theatre.
He started with a peach that nipped away and took Asif Khan’s outside edge, safely pouched by Sanju Samson behind the stumps. Next up was a brisk nip-backer that trapped Dhruv Parashar plumb in front. And to top it off, a canny slower one that had Junaid Siddique slogging tamely to mid-on.
By the time Dube was done, his figures read 2-0-4-3 as UAE’s innings lay in tatters at 57 all out. Alongside him, Kuldeep Yadav spun a web with 4/7, as India’s bowlers ran riot.
India’s Batters Finish It Off In A Flash
India’s chase was a walk in the park. Abhishek Sharma cracked 30 off 16 balls, while Shubman Gill (20* off 9) and Surya (7* off 2) wrapped it up in 4.3 overs. The scoreboard barely had time to warm up before India sealed a nine-wicket win with 93 balls to spare.
For Dube, though, this night was about more than just numbers. It was about proving a point that the allrounder tag still belongs firmly beside his name. The Impact Player rule may have clipped his wings, but in Dubai, he found wind under them again.
