Dinesh Karthik pounded 20 runs from just eight balls against KKR to take RCB to a competitive 182-run total in match number 10 of the IPL 2024 season.

The seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman blasted three sixes in his death-overs cameo, and took a special liking to KKR fast bowler Andre Russell during his partnership with Virat Kohli.

Karthik’s sizzling cameo comes off the back of his match-winning knock against Punjab Kings earlier this week, and a counterattacking 38 against CSK in the opening match of the tournament.

As the 38-year-old continues to make the most of his newfound batting momentum, a particular RCB fan present at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium held the wicketkeeper-batter in higher stead than CSK legend and India’s World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni.

The fan in question proudly held a placard, which described Dinesh Karthik as the “Real Thala”, and poster instantly went viral across all social media platforms soon after RCB’s high-scoring innings.

As Dinesh Karthik was walking off the field after leaving a trail of three death-overs sixes in his wake against KKR, one RCB fan held a poster which signified the wicketkeeper’s contribution in the team’s recent success.

However, the fan did so by playfully mocking CSK legend MS Dhoni, considering the placard itself read:“DK is the real Thala”.

The term ‘Thala’ is an endearing nickname given to MS Dhoni by CSK enthusiasts owing to his ceaseless contributions for the franchise.

As it turned out, despite Dinesh Karthik’s death-overs thunderclap and Virat Kohli’s calculated half-century, the RCB franchise succumbed to a huge defeat at the hands of KKR in front of their home crowd in Bengaluru.

After RCB formed 182-6, KKR mowed down the target with relative ease, with Sunil Narine bashing 47 off 22 balls while Venkatesh Iyer blasting an enterprising 30-ball 50.
