Trinbago Knight Riders stormed to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 clash at Tarouba on Friday night. Colin Munro’s explosive half-century and captain Nicholas Pooran’s fireworks sealed the deal for Trinbago as they chased down a big total of 179 runs with ease.
Rutherford, Powell’s Fireworks Power Barbados Royals To Strong Total
After winning the toss, Trinbago Knight Riders captain Nicholas Pooran decided to bowl first. The decision looked risky as the Barbados Royals’ top and middle order played aggressively to post a strong 178/6 in 20 overs.
Sherfane Rutherford was the star of their innings, smashing 45 runs off just 22 balls with four sixes and three boundaries. Rovman Powell provided the late fireworks, blasting 31 from only 15 balls, including some monstrous hits to lift the Royals past 175.
Before the late blitz, Kadeem Alleyne had played an anchor role with a quick 41 off 37 balls. South African star Quinton de Kock scored 17 before falling cheaply, a dismissal that cost the Royals momentum at the top.
On the other hand, Mohammad Amir was key for the Knight Riders taking 2 critical wickets; Andre Russell took 3 wickets.
Nicholas Pooran Goes Ballistic To Secure Easy Victory
Pursuing 179, Trinbago made a firm start and never once felt under stress. Colin Munro was the standout performer, scoring a classy 67 off 44 balls. He hit four sixes and four fours, providing the ideal platform for the middle order to be able to bat freely.
Once Munro departed, it was captain Nicholas Pooran who took the game completely away from the Royals. Pooran scored 65 runs off only 40 deliveries, hitting six huge sixes in a power display that was breathtaking. His aggressive approach ensured that the required run rate never spiralled out of control.
Alex Hales and Kieron Pollard chipped in with 19 runs each, while Keacy Carty contributed just one. But with Pooran in destructive form, the chase was wrapped up smoothly. Trinbago reached 179/3 in only 17.5 overs, winning with 13 balls to spare.
For the Royals, the bowling unit struggled badly. Ramon Simmonds and Jomel Warrican managed one wicket each, but the rest of the bowlers had no answers to Trinbago’s fearless batting.
