Mumbai Indians ex-captain Rohit Sharma's second IPL century against Chennai Super Kings went in vain as the latter secured a 20-run victory. However, despite the brutal loss, Rohit's valiant efforts were lauded by fans on the internet.

The IPL el Clasico between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings saw a fitting end at Wankhede earlier today. Courtesy to MS Dhoni's classic 4 ball 20 runs finish, CSK surpassed 200-runs mark to set up a 207 runs target for MI.

That being said, MI had a brilliant start after Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan logged 63 runs in the powerplay. However, after Kishan's wicket, things went haywire for MI.

As wickets kept tumbling down from one end, Rohit Sharma held on to one end hoping for support from the lower order. Sharma, who raced to his half-century in 30 balls, struggled to secure enough strikes in the second half.

While Rohit didn't give up and brought up his second IPL career century in the final over, he sadly couldn't lift MI to a win.

Moreover, his muted celebrations further encouraged fans to laud his valiant efforts on the internet. Fans on Twitter highlighted that despite the hardships he went through in these past couple of moments, Rohit's commitment to MI is yet to be shaken.

He fought like a lone warrior against CSK, and the lack of support from the other end forced MI 20 runs short in the towering chase.

That being said, the loss will hurt Mumbai Indians' playoff dreams as they fall to the eighth spot on the points table, whereas CSK jumped to third place with eight points.
