Matheesha Pathirana has a habit of making significant impact right from the word-go whenever he is in action for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). And the trend continued on Sunday (April 14) when CSK were up against Mumbai Indians in Match 29 of the IPL 2024 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Chasing 207, MI were off to a flying start, courtesy of blistering hittings from both Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who smashed all around the park earlier, then introduced Matheesha Pathirana into the attack for the first time in the eighth over of MI's innings.
Pathirana missed out on couple of matches due to injury concerns, but the moment he came back, he struck, that too of a dangerous wicket of Ishan Kishan.
It was a full delivey by the Sri Lankan pacer towards Ishan's pads, and the Southpaw could only manage to hit straight to Shardul Thakur at short mid-wicket. It was a dissappointing end of course, but the way Pathirana, who came as an impact substitute for Ajinkya Rahane, announced his re-arrival made a lot of noise.
