Sam Curran played his final game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 while leading the Punjab Kings (PBKS) from the front in their 5-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 65 at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.

On being put in to bowl first, PBKS bowled brilliantly while Curran bowled three overs for 2/24, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel cheaply. Harshal Patel and Rahul Chahar scalped two each, and RR scored 144/9 in their 20 overs.

During the run chase, the Englishman scored 63*(41) after coming in to bat at 48/4. Rilee Rossouw and Jitesh Sharma scored 22(13) and 23(20) respectively before Ashutosh Sharma yet again had a good cameo of 17*(11).

Curran reflects on the season

Here's what Curran had to say after his Player of The Match performance against the Royals.

On PBKS' approach for this game after already being knocked out of the tournament,

"I think we bowled really well as a group. We had a lot of pride to play for. The way the guys came together. Nathan Ellis, the way he played his first game was excellent. Great character from the team."

Talking about their batting and him taking it upon himself to win the game for the Kings, Curran admitted to it being tough in the initial stages and the importance of partnership.

The 25-year-old informed about him and Jonny Bairstow leaving to join the English camp tomorrow. He also shared his desire of wishing that he could finish the season with PBKS. He also took a look on where things went south for them which resulted in their elimination.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed the season, thoroughly enjoyed captaining. Quite frustrating to leave, but obviously excited about the World Cup.

"Hindsight's a wonderful thing. If we win our next game we finish on 12 points. So, I feel this team was close to something but it wasn't meant to be. Over the next few seasons, if we can keep some of the really good players, we can go better," Curran added

He ended with calling the chase against KKR as their highlight of the season. The southpaw also lauded Ashutosh for a fantastic debut season.
