If Virat Kohli holds the key for India in batting, then Jasprit Bumrah is surely the most important player in the bowling department for the visiting side in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on November 22.
Bumrah has a terrific Test record against Australia in Australia and he'll be eager to perform once again in the upcoming 5-match Test series. Several records are up for grabs for the pace bowler, and one of them involves former India captain, Kapil Dev's bowling feat against Australia.
Kapil Dev, the former World Cup winning captain has the record for most wickets by an Indian bowler on Australian soil. The legendary all-rounder grabbed 51 wickets in 11 Test matches. Bumrah, if he plays all 5 Tests has a great chance to breaking the record.
Currently, he has 32 wickers in 7 matches, Down Under, and needs 20 more to surpass the former India skipper. Apart from Kapil Dev, the other notable Indian bowlers in the list includes Anil Kumble (49 wickets), R Ashwin (39 wickets), and Bishan Singh Bedi (35 wickets).
Bumrah to lead India in Rohit's absence
For the second time in his career, Bumrah will lead the Indian Test team when the two sides collide in Perth on November 22. Rohit Sharma will not be a part of the Indian team due to the birth of his child, and as a result, Bumrah has been given the captaincy armband.
His first and only experience of leading India in a Test match came during the one-off Test Vs England in 2022, and unfortunately, India lost that match. However, Bumrah, in the absence of Rohit has a great chance to give India the lead in the series with his brilliant performance - both as a bowler and as a leader.
