In a significant development, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru moved to the Karnataka High Court, filing a petition against the Central Administrative Tribunal's (CAT) statement holding the franchise responsible for the horrific stampede in Bengaluru. Recently, the tribunal, in its first official statement, blamed RCB for the mishap that took the lives of eleven innocent civilians the day after the franchise won its maiden IPL title.

RCB Demands Justice In High Court Over Stampede Verdict

In a remarkable achievement, RCB broke a seventeen-year jinx and won its first-ever IPL trophy on May 3. The franchise scheduled a victory parade for the very next day, making it challenging for the Bengaluru administration to make necessary safety arrangements for the crowd.

The tribunal, in its verdict, gave a clean chit to the Bengaluru police while citing RCB's action as a major reason for the stampede.

“Suddenly, the RCB created the aforesaid type of nuisance without any prior permission. It cannot be expected from the Police that within a short time of about 12 hours the police will make all arrangements required in the Police Act or in the other rules, etc,” a part of CAT's statement read, as quoted by India Today.

However, RCB feels that the tribunal should have given the franchise a chance to present its case before making a judgment.

In its plea, the franchise has accused the tribunal of being biased for passing its verdict without allowing the IPL team to defend itself.

“Despite not being a party before it, the tribunal held RCB prima facie responsible. The findings are contrary to natural justice as RCB was not heard,” RCB's petition read.

On May 4, a massive crowd comprising around three lakh people gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for a glimpse of RCB's star-studded side. The miscommunication and security lapse led to a chaotic stampede, causing significant trouble for the defending IPL champions.
