The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has condoled the sad loss of 3 young Afghan cricketers. The athletes lost their lives in a devastating Pakistani airstrike in Afghanistan’s Paktika province.

In a deadly war between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Paktika province’s civilians tragically lost their lives on October 18, 2025.

An airstrike launched by the Pakistan military killed several Afghans, including 3 young cricketers, Kabeer Agha, Sibghatullah, and Haroon, during a public gathering in Paktika.

BCCI express sorrow over the death of young Afghanistan cricketers

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), on Saturday morning, confirmed the death of its 3 bright talents through a social media statement.

Meanwhile, the BCCI also expressed solidarity with Afghanistan. In a heartfelt statement, the board extended its condolences to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the families of the deceased players, calling the attack “cowardly and unwarranted”.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expresses its deep sorrow and condolences on the tragic loss of three young Afghan cricketers - Kabeer Agha, Sibghatullah, and Haroon - who lost their lives in the cowardly cross-border airstrikes in Paktika province. The BCCI conveys its heartfelt sympathies to the people of Afghanistan and shares in their pain and loss."

BCCI also added that the loss of such promising young talents was not just a tragedy for Afghanistan but a blow to the entire cricketing community.

"The BCCI stands in solidarity with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the cricket fraternity, and the families of the departed players during this moment of profound grief and condemns this ghastly and unwarranted attack. The loss of innocent lives, particularly those of promising sportspersons, is deeply distressing and a matter of great concern."

According to reports, the 3 Afghan cricketers were part of a domestic cricket programme and had been training for upcoming regional tournaments.

Their deaths have sparked widespread outrage and grief across the sporting world, with several international cricketers and boards expressing solidarity with Afghanistan.

As symbolic retaliation, the ACB had earlier confirmed withdrawal from a tri-series involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka, calling the attacks “immoral and barbaric.

Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan also condemned the attack and dropped ‘Lahore Qalandars’ from his Twitter bio.

The incident has raised questions once again about player safety in war-torn areas and the psychological strain that conflict inflicts on young players pursuing their dreams.

For Afghanistan, whose people have long used cricket as a symbol of hope and resilience, this disaster is particularly heartbreaking.
