On the morning of October 18, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) shared heartbreaking news of an airstrike allegedly conducted by Pakistan. In an official statement on social media, the board detailed the attack in Paktika province and accused the Pakistani regime of targeting civilians.
As a mark of protest and respect for the three young cricketers who lost their lives, the ACB decided to withdraw from the upcoming tri-nation T20I series involving Pakistan, scheduled for late November. In regard to the attack, Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan also issued a strong statement condemning Pakistan’s actions.
Rashid Khan condemns the heinous act
Taking to social media, Rashid Khan expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, calling it a grave violation of human rights.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of civilian lives in the recent Pakistani aerial strikes on Afghanistan. A tragedy that claimed the lives of women, children, and aspiring young cricketers who dreamed of representing their nation on the world stage. It is absolutely immoral and barbaric to target civilian infrastructure. These unjust and unlawful actions represent a grave violation of human rights and must not go unnoticed," Rashid wrote on his handle.
He criticized the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure and supported the ACB’s decision to pull out of the series, standing firmly with his nation.
"In light of the precious innocent souls lost, I welcome the ACB’s decision of withdrawing from upcoming fixtures against Pakistan. I stand with our people at this difficult time, our national dignity must come before all else," Rashid wrote.
Pakistan Cricket in danger?
This development has raised serious concerns for Pakistan cricket. The country, which faced diplomatic tension with India earlier this year following the Pahalgam terror attack, now finds itself under further scrutiny.
Rashid Khan, who once acted as a mediator between Salman Ali Agha and Suryakumar Yadav during the Asia Cup 2025 launch, has now turned his back on Pakistan cricket, following teh footsteps of the India captain, in solidarity with his country after what he described as a deeply immoral act.
