On Monday, July 21, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the playing XI for the fourth Test against India. The hosts have made a solitary change to their line-up as Liam Dawson has replaced Shoaib Bashir, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the series following a finger injury during Lord's Test.

Liam Dawson To Make First Appearance In Eight Years
India and England will lock horns for the fourth Test on July 23 at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. The upcoming match will mark Liam Dawson's first appearance for England in eight years as he last played for the Three Lions in July 2017.
Dawson was not in ECB's scheme of things, but Bashir suffered a finger injury while stopping a ball in the 3rd Test at Lord's, which ruled him out of the remainder of the series. However, owing to Dawson's great County stint, where he contributed with the ball and the ball, England were forced to pick him ahead of the likes of Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed.
Liam Dawson's Impressive Show In County Cricket
Talking about Dawson's recent appearance, he has done well in County cricket, which rules out his selection based on T20 performances. Notably, the 35-year-old has 21 wickets in 16 innings playing for Hampshire.
More importantly, Dawson can be a great No.8 for England as the left-arm spinner amassed 536 runs in 14 innings, averaging 44.67. It includes a century and two fifties.
