Ben Stokes, the charismatic English all-rounder has opted out of IPL 2025 and has not registered for the mega auction scheduled to be held in November. The all-rounder is currently leading England in Test cricket and from the last few years, he has been prioritising Test cricket over other formats to keep himself fit and fresh for the longest format.
The non-registration in the mega-auction for IPL 2025 is a decision taken on similar lines. He did not play IPL 2024 too, citing fitness and the need to keep himself fresh for national duties. Stokes last played in IPL during the 2023 season for Chennai Super Kings. However, he could play only two games that season due to a knee injury and has so far played only 45 matches in IPL.
Ben Stokes' Tryst With Injuries
He has played for Rising Pune Supergiants and Rajasthan Royals too, and despite being one of the leading all-rounders in the world, Stokes has not been a regular in the league due to his injuries. The long list of injury has kept him out of the white-ball formats for England too, and he recently did not participate in the T20 World Cup in Caribbean.
Ben Stokes officially retired from ODIs a year before the ODI World Cup, but came back out of the retirement to play the World Cup in the format in 2023. He has not played ODIs too since then, but he might make a comeback in the Champions Trophy 2025 that is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in February.
Overall, 52 English players have registered for the mega-auction of IPL 2025 which also includes Ben Stokes' former teammate and legend James Anderson.
