Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Tuesday announced that former captain Daren Sammy will be the head coach of the West Indies men's team across all formats. The appointment will take effect from April 1, 2025.

Sammy, who led West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016, has been instrumental in reviving the white-ball team since taking over as coach in 2023. Notably, Sammy's leadership has brought renewed energy and success to the limited-overs side.

Sammy Replaces Andre Coley As Test Coach

Taking over all formats, Daren Sammy will replace Andre Coley as the head coach of the Test team. His appointment reflects CWI's faith in his ability to build a competitive team across all formats.

"Daren Sammy will be the Head Coach of all the Senior Men's teams as of April 1, 2025. Announcement made by CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe at the Quarterly Press Conference in St Vincent moments ago," Cricket West Indies tweeted.

Since taking charge of the West Indies white-ball teams in 2023, Sammy has led the side to impressive victories, winning 15 of 28 ODIs and 20 of 35 T20Is. Under his guidance, the West Indies have clinched four bilateral series, including notable wins against India, England, and South Africa.

Sammy To Address West Indies' Test Woes

However, the West Indies endured a challenging 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle. They suffered series defeats against India, England, and South Africa, while their matches against Australia and Bangladesh ended in draws. Their inconsistent performances throughout the cycle ultimately led to a bottom-place finish on the rank table.

Nevertheless, Sammy's appointment as head coach is expected to bring stability and direction to West Indies cricket, especially in the Test arena. The 40-year-old all-rounder brings significant value and experience to mentor the West Indies squad. With him at the helm, fans are eager to see Caribbean cricket regain its glory on the international stage.
