In the second Test at Kingston, Jamaica, Bangladesh defeated West Indies by 101 runs, and levelled the series at 1-1. The match was significant for Bangladesh as it marked their first Test win in the West Indies since 2009. Despite the win, both teams remain firmly entrenched at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table, with little impact on their standings.

Bangladesh’s Stellar Performance In Second Test

The second Test match saw Bangladesh's batting lineup deliver a robust performance on a challenging pitch. After being bowled out for 164 in their first innings, Bangladesh showed resilience in their second innings, and scored 268. Jaker Ali impressed with significant batting and made 91 off just 106 balls. His innings, along with contributions from Shadman Islam and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz helped Bangladesh set a decent target for the West Indies.

The West Indies’ chase was always going to be difficult, and Bangladesh's bowling attack made sure it was. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was the standout performer, as he took 5 wickets in the second innings.

The result of the Test series has not significantly shifted the WTC points table. Bangladesh, who currently sit in eighth place, have four wins and eight defeats in 12 matches, with a win percentage of 31.25%. The West Indies, placed last, have managed just two wins in 11 matches with a win percentage of 24.24%.

The victory in Jamaica has moved Bangladesh closer to Pakistan in the standings. Both teams have 4 wins to their name; however, Bangladesh’s Test campaign in the current WTC cycle is now concluded.
