Assam all-rounder and Rajasthan Royals star Riyan Parag has received his first call-up to the Indian team. The young cricketer has been named in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against Zimbabwe, set to commence on July 6.

Riyan Parag's selection comes on the back of a breakout IPL season that saw him finally live up to the potential that many had seen in him.

Playing in his sixth IPL season, Parag made headlines with his staggering performances, scoring almost as many runs in IPL 2024 as he had accumulated over his previous five seasons combined.

Batting predominantly at the No. 4 position, Parag consistently delivered, scoring 40 or more runs in seven out of his 14 innings. This impressive consistency was second only to Virat Kohli, who achieved 40-plus scores nine times this IPL.

With a tally of 573 runs in 16 innings, Parag finished third on the run-scoring charts for most runs in IPL 2024, trailing only behind Kohli (741) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (583). His performances were a significant factor in Rajasthan Royals' campaign and caught the selectors' attention.

The 22-year-old expressed his joy and gratitude upon being included in the national squad.

Taking to Twitter, Parag shared an image with the caption “DARE TO DREAM,” creatively using an evil eye emoji to represent the letter ‘O’. His tweet was proof of his perseverance and belief in his abilities.

It is worth mentioning that Parag's journey to this point has not been without its challenges. Despite being recognized as a player with immense potential, he had struggled to translate that into consistent performances, leading to considerable criticism and trolling on social media.

This season, however, Parag silenced his critics and proved his mettle, showcasing his growth and maturity as a cricketer.

India's T20I series against Zimbabwe will be held in Harare, with matches scheduled for July 6, 7, 10, 13, and 14. Fans are eagerly anticipating Parag's debut, hoping to see the young talent continue his impressive form on the international stage.
