Afghanistan and Bangladesh are set to meet on Tuesday, June 25, in a highly anticipated Super 8 clash at St Vincent. This Group 1 match is of immense significance for Afghanistan, particularly if Australia lose to India on Monday.

The stakes are high, and the tension is evident, as Afghanistan aim to secure its spot in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Afghanistan recently stunned Australia by securing their first-ever victory over them, a win that has thrown Group 1 wide open. Now, Afghanistan's hopes hinge on the outcome of the India vs Australia match.

If India manages to beat Australia, Afghanistan's task becomes more straightforward—they only need to beat Bangladesh, regardless of the margin.

However, if Australia wins, Afghanistan will have to not only defeat Bangladesh but also keep a keen eye on the net run rate to ensure their progression to the semi-finals.

So, what combination will Afghanistan go ahead with for this crucial clash of monumental proportions?

Afghanistan will likely rely on their in-form openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. The duo has been in magnificent touch, stitching a record three century-plus partnerships in the ongoing T20 World Cup, the most by any pair in a single edition.

Their latest heroics against Australia have cemented their positions as key players, and they will undoubtedly be expected to provide a strong start against Bangladesh.

Azmatullah Omarzai is anticipated to slot in at No. 3, bringing his efficient batting and useful seam bowling to the fore.

Although he had a modest outing with the bat against Australia, he managed to take a wicket. Karim Janat, who scored 13 off 9 balls in the same match, is likely to retain his position at No. 4.

One area of potential change is in the inclusion of Nangeyalia Kharote, who struggled in the last match, conceding 13 runs in a single over without taking a wicket.

To strengthen their batting line-up, Afghanistan might consider bringing in the more experienced Najibullah Zadran. This move could provide a much-needed boost to their middle order, especially in a high-stakes game.

The lower middle order will be anchored by seasoned campaigners Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib. Both players are known for their ability to hit big shots and bowl crucial overs, making them invaluable assets in tight situations.

Afghanistan's bowling attack, featuring Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, has been exceptional throughout the tournament.

Rashid Khan, in particular, has been a standout performer in big games, consistently delivering match-winning performances.

Alongside him, Noor Ahmad's spin, Naveen-ul-Haq's pace, and Fazalhaq Farooqi's accuracy have combined to form a formidable bowling unit capable of dismantling any batting line-up.
