The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced Dan Lawrence as Harry Brook’s replacement for England’s forthcoming five-match Test series against India. A few days prior to the commencement of the opening Test, Brook confirmed his exit from the series citing personal reasons.

Lawrence, who played the last of his 11 Test matches for England back in March 2022 against West Indies, is set to join the English squad in India on January 22.

ECB confirms Harry Brook’s replacement

English top-order batter and occasional off-spinner Dan Lawrence is set to replace outbound Harry Brook for the five-match Test series in India. His surprise call-up marks his return to England’s Test side after a gap of nearly two years, and for the first time under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum’s ‘BazBall’ era considering he made his previous Test appearance back in March 2022 in West Indies.

Mere hours after Brook opted out of the squad, the ECB announced Dan Lawrence as his replacement, and confirmed that the Essex cricketer will be joining the England squad in India by January 22, i.e., three days prior to the launch of the opening Test match at Hyderabad.

Dan Lawrence recently played Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 matches for the Melbourne Stars in Australia. In his final outing for the franchise on January 15, the cricketer made little impact with the bat but picked up astonishing figures of 4-35 with the ball.

The first Test between hosts India and the visiting Englishmen will commence from January 25 onwards at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
