June 14 2025, will forever be written in golden words in South African cricket as Temba Bavuma and his boys created history by beating Australia in the WTC Final. It is their first ICC title since 1998 and after numerous heartbreaks, they have finally managed to cross the final hurdle.

Over the years many South African superstars have dominated the game and one of them is Dale Steyn. He was arguably the best bowler of his generation, but somehow an ICC trophy eluded him. So, naturally, after the WTC Final win, the fast bowler got emotional and during a chat with Star Sports, he broke down in tears.

The South African while explaining his feelings after the win stated that the win is incredible and he is short of words. He also revealed that he has his South African Test cap with him and is extremely proud of the team.

The former cricketer then tried to speak further, but could not control his tears. The raw emotions of a great player like Dale Steyn shows what the win means to South African people and this achievement is likely to take cricket in the rainbow nation to the next level.

Dale Steyn And South Africa's 2015 World Cup Heartbreak

Dale Steyn himself was part of the team that was at the top of the ICC Test rankings for a long time. However, when it comes to the ICC tournaments, the pacer was at the center of many big heartbreaks of South African cricket.

One of those was the 2015 World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. The Proteas were favourites to win that game and had a team full of superstars. The match, though, went right down to the wire and it was Dale Steyn who was on the receiving end in the final over as Grant Elliot's six shattered South Africa's hopes of winning the World Cup again.

Thus, South Africa have more often than not crumbled under pressure in ICC tournaments. Things were expected to go on similar lines in the WTC Final, but Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma stood tall. They guided a difficult run chase and took the Proteas over the line to mark a significant milestone in the cricketing history of the rainbow nation.
