Things are not looking good for Venkatesh Iyer, as the 30-year-old continues to struggle in the MP T20 League 2025. The left-handed batter, who had a disappointing IPL 2025, is yet to make an impact in Madhya Pradesh’s premier T20 tournament.
On Sunday, June 15, the Indore Pink Panthers faced the Chambal Ghariyals. Batting for Indore, Iyer managed only 10 runs off 10 balls, hitting just one four. Fans had high hopes for Venkatesh Iyer, especially with his team chasing a challenging target of 208. However, Iyer failed to deliver, and his side ultimately suffered a defeat.
This was the second consecutive underwhelming performance from the KKR star. In the tournament’s opening match, he scored 16 off 15 balls. So far, the southpaw has just 26 runs in two innings, averaging 13.
A Flop Show In IPL 2025 for Venkatesh Iyer
Iyer has faced significant criticism for his poor performance during IPL 2025. At the mega-auction, KKR went all out to secure his services for a record ₹23.75 crore, making him the most expensive all-rounder in IPL auction history.
Despite the hefty price tag, the 30-year-old had a disastrous campaign, scoring just 142 runs in seven innings at an average of 20.29. His only notable contribution was a solitary fifty, scored against SRH.
Iyer’s high auction value was also due to his ability to contribute with the ball. However, he was not given a single over in the cash-rich league. In contrast, he has managed to take two wickets in the ongoing MP T20 2025.
KKR Contemplates Iyer’s Future
With Iyer failing to perform in a high-pressure season, the Kolkata Knight Riders are now considering his future in the team. The 30-year-old faces a tough challenge to regain form in the local league and prove his worth to the KKR management.
