CSK, SRH Keen To Invest In English Cricket After SA20 Success: Reports

Several IPL franchises, including the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), are reportedly considering investing in English cricket. As per sources, SRH owners Sun TV Network have already initiated discussions with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

SRH's confidence in investing in overseas leagues might well have been triggered by the success of the franchise in the South Africa-based SA20 competition. Earlier this month, SRH's South African counterpart, Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated the Durban's Super Giants in the final to lift their second successive SA20 title.

SRH and CSK open for investing in English cricket

The Sun TV Network, also the owners of the IPL-based SRH franchise, have engaged in discussions with several ECB officials for a possible investment opportunity in The Hundred, as per a recent report from Cricbuzz.

Reigning IPL winners Chennai Super Kings have also expressed interest in investing in English cricket. However, they have yet to reach a concrete decision, and nothing has been finalized as of yet.

Fellow IPL franchise Delhi Capitals and their co-owners GMR Group, meanwhile, are negotiating with England-based Hampshire County.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah refused to comment about any possible investment attempts made by IPL franchises and described the same as the board's "internal matter".

Regardless, all IPL franchises are currently bracing themselves for the forthcoming IPL 2024 season

SRH, CSK and all other teams announced a full list of their retained players back in November 2023 and made further additions to their squad the following month at the IPL 2024 auction. The IPL 2024 season is scheduled to commence sometime in late March.
