The Mumbai opener has been in the radar of CSK management since the IPL 2025 auction, and according to sources, the five-time champions recently called him for a trial too. Ayush Mhatre has been signed in at 30 Lakhs for the season, and has been rewarded for his consistent performances at the domestic level for Mumbai.
Prithvi Shaw was another opener who was in the radar after the injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad, but he has been out of favour due to off-field issues, and it continues to haunt him. As far as Ayush Mhatre is concerned, he has been brilliant for Mumbai in first-class and List A cricket. In 16 first-class innings, he has 504 runs with two hundreds while he has same number of centuries in the List A cricket too.
His addition will provide more firepower to the CSK batting line-up, and he is likely to join the squad before the game against MI that is scheduled to be played on April 20.
