Conspiracy theories are aplenty whenever a major development with regard to Indian cricket happens. Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad getting ruled out of IPL 2025 allowing former captain MS Dhoni to lead for the remainder of the tournament is no different.

Desperate to take up the roles of physiotherapists and doctors, speculative Indian fans think that Gaikwad has been “forcefully dropped” to bring Dhoni to the fore. Reason? So that his legendary leadership can change their fortunes in a season which has seen them losing four out of five matches thus far.

Speculations Aplenty Around MS Dhoni Leading CSK Again

A viral video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) sees Gaikwad playing Kick Volleyball despite an injury. Although uploaded yesterday, the authenticity of the video, in terms of when it was originally shot, remains doubtful.

Assuming the video is a latest one, Gaikwad, with a fractured elbow, can surely play a casual round of Kick Volleyball. With fans failing to understand the same, they have started to perceive the decision as a desperate move to drop Gaikwad amid poor results.

“There is something else. Don't know what is happening in the team,” a fan commented under the video.

“Forcefully dropped?,” questioned another fan.

While fans can continue to make more such suppositions, it wouldn't change the fact that Dhoni will be leading Super Kings against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium tonight. In what is going to be his first match as a captain since IPL 2023 final, he would be looking to avoid the franchise's first-ever instance of losing three consecutive matches at home.

As far as Gaikwad's replacement for the rest of the season is concerned, CSK are yet to name one. Speaking particularly of tonight's match, one out of Rahul Tripathi or Deepak Hooda could play in his place at No. 3.
