According to several reports, the eyewitnesses stated that Vijay Patel was chatting with a fellow player at the non-striker's end before walking to face the next delivery. It was at this point that he reportedly experienced discomfort and suddenly fell to the ground.

Despite immediate efforts from onlookers to revive him, including attempts at CPR, he could not be saved. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed, but it is suspected that he suffered a heart attack.

"He collapsed around 11.30 am while playing a match as part of the Christmas Trophy tournament here. It is suspected that he suffered a heart attack. Attempts to revive him through CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) failed. We are awaiting the post-mortem report," a police official said, news agency PTI reported.

It is important to mention that, this is not the first such incident in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a 31-year-old tech professional died of a heart attack while playing cricket in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan. The man reportedly continued to play despite experiencing chest pain before collapsing mid-run.

In a similar tragic occurrence, professional cricketer Imran Patel, died in November following a cardiac arrest during a league match at Pune's Garware Stadium.
